Two Women Found Dead Near River in Hokkaido: Possible Mountain Accident

On the 23rd of this month, two elderly women, aged in their 60s and 70s, were discovered unresponsive near the upper reaches of the Satsunai River, located in the Hidaka Mountains of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost prefecture. Emergency services confirmed their deaths shortly after the discovery.

Local police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, considering the possibility that the women may have fallen while hiking or engaging in other outdoor activities, which could indicate a mountain accident.

The Hidaka Mountains are known for their rugged terrain and natural beauty, attracting hikers and nature enthusiasts. However, the area can also be hazardous, particularly for those unfamiliar with its challenges.
