Tokyo – On the 27th, FamilyMart announced it will sell stockpile rice for just 400 yen per kilogram (excluding tax). This initiative has garnered a positive online response, with comments like, “Perfect for single-person households!” and “Great for a taste test.”
As the first major retailer to offer stockpile rice, FamilyMart plans to source 3,000 tons and package it in convenient 1 kg units, aiming to have it on shelves by June. While discretionary contracts for stockpile rice began on the 26th, Agriculture Minister Shinjiro Koizumi targets a price of around 2,000 yen for 5 kilograms.
The smaller 1 kg portions have resonated with consumers, with many praising the convenience. However, concerns about taste and potential hoarding were also voiced in comments like, “If it’s just 1 kg, I’d try it.”
FamilyMart’s innovative move could change how we think about convenience and food storage in today’s fast-paced world!
