Nepalese Restaurant Owner Arrested for Drunk Driving After Collision in Sendai

Sendai, Miyagi – May 31

A Nepalese national and local restaurant owner was arrested on the night of May 31 on suspicion of drunk driving after rear-ending a vehicle stopped at a traffic light in Taihaku Ward, Sendai City.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on a prefectural road in the Nishinakada area of Taihaku Ward. The suspect’s passenger vehicle crashed into the rear of another car that was waiting at a red light.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the collision.

The driver, identified as Ranjan Dhakal, 44, a Nepalese citizen and owner of a local restaurant, was taken into custody at the scene. Police confirmed that Dhakal’s blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit, and he admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
