Ministry of Agriculture to Continue Allowing Retail Sales of Stockpiled Rice from Discretionary Contracts

The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has decided to permit retail sales of stockpiled rice acquired through discretionary contracts to continue into next month. This decision comes as the deadline for sales of this rice approaches at the end of the current month.

Discretionary contracts are agreements that allow for more flexibility in procurement, often used in situations where immediate supply is necessary. The stockpiled rice in question is part of Japan’s strategy to ensure food security and stabilize rice prices in the market.

By allowing retailers to sell this rice, the government aims to manage supply effectively and meet consumer demand during a time when rice is a staple food in Japan.
