Japan’s Education Ministry to Evaluate Support Methods for High School Students with Developmental Disabilities

In Japan, over 200,000 students receive special education support known as “tsuukyuu shidou” (通級指導), which allows them to attend some classes in separate rooms due to conditions like developmental disabilities. Recognizing the growing number of these students, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has announced plans to begin evaluating appropriate teaching methods for high school settings starting next fiscal year.

This initiative aims to ensure that students with special needs receive effective support tailored to their individual requirements, fostering an inclusive educational environment across the country.
