On August 20, the Tohoku region of Japan, particularly along the Sea of Japan coast, is expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall due to the influence of a stationary front and low-pressure systems. In Hokkaido, which is the northernmost island of Japan, particularly in the southern areas, some locations have already recorded rainfall equivalent to a month’s worth for August within just six hours.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued warnings regarding potential landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising river levels. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against these hazards.
