Average Rice Price Reaches 3,579 Yen for 5 Kilograms, Up 71 Yen from Last Week

As of the week ending on October 17, the average price of rice sold in approximately 6,000 stores across Japan has reached 3,579 yen (about $24) for a 5-kilogram bag, marking an increase of 71 yen from the previous week. This data is significant as it reflects current market trends in one of Japan’s staple foods.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan has been working to provide more accurate insights into rice pricing, particularly in relation to the impact of government stockpiling and private sector analysis. Since June, MAFF has been releasing data analyzed by private companies to better illustrate these influences on rice prices.
