Over 1,400 Dead in Afghanistan Earthquake, Taliban Interim Government Reports

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on the 1st of the month, according to Japan’s time zone. The Taliban, which currently holds power in Afghanistan, reported that the disaster has led to the deaths of at least 1,411 people and injuries to 3,124 others.

This earthquake adds to the challenges faced by the region, which is still recovering from decades of conflict and humanitarian crises. The Taliban, an Islamist militant group that took control of Afghanistan in August 2021, has been managing the country’s affairs amid international isolation and economic difficulties.
