The release of treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, which has been ongoing for two years as of the 24th, has shown that levels of tritium detected in seawater around the plant are significantly below safety standards. This water, which has been treated to remove most radioactive elements, is being released into the ocean as part of the decommissioning process of the plant.
Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the operator of the plant, has indicated that this release will continue until 2051. In addition to the ongoing water release, the dismantling of empty storage tanks on-site is also underway. However, the long-term safety management of this process is crucial, as continuous monitoring of both the treated water and the surrounding seawater will be necessary to ensure environmental safety.
